Sending email from PHP in UTF-8 is pretty easy:


	$to = "\"$to_name\" <$to_email>";

	$headers = "From: \"$from_name\" <$from_email>\r\nReply-To: $from_email\r\nContent-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8";

	$args = "-f$from_email";

	mail($to, $subject, wordwrap($email, 60), $headers, $args);


But the subject line and to/from names don't use the content-type of the body, so how do you include unicode characters in them? By using quoted printable:


	function mail_escape_header($subject){
		$subject = preg_replace('/([^a-z ])/ie', 'sprintf("=%02x",ord(StripSlashes("\\1")))', $subject);
		$subject = str_replace(' ', '_', $subject);
		return "=?utf-8?Q?$subject?=";
	}
